First Mood Board

Before I start to work out what I want to happen in my 30 second animation I have created a mood board that contains a series of images, ships from Star Wars, that I would like to possibly include in my finished models/animation. Below I will discuss my choices on this mood board and why I think these designs would be appropriate for my animation.

  1. When looking through the different ship designs across the whole Star Wars franchise, the Delta-7 "Aethersprite" really stood out to me. The ship is designed to be lightning fast and relies largely on the pilot's use of the force to aid in it's maneuver. Thanks to this, the ship is devoid of lots of tacked on gadgets and looks sleek and streamline. The ship is appropriate for this module as it is largely made of triangular shapes, with a cockpit attached at the rear end. Texturing the ship should be relatively simple as it is mainly a red/white paint job with some paneling texture.
  2. The Tie Fighter is the quintessential "Star Wars" ship. I wanted to include one in some fashion, but also something a bit more original. The Tie Interceptor is and upgraded Tie Fighter, used specifically for defending the second Death Star in the battle of Endor. This version of the Tie Fighter packs more firepower and maneuverability, making them an attractive choice. The overall design of the ship is very interesting too, with the wings almost resembling claws or pincers, like a scorpion bearing down on it's prey. Thanks to the use of spheres, squares and rectangles making up the primary shapes of this ship it shouldn't be too difficult to model and implement in my animation. The texturing of the ship is also mostly clean whites and carbon fibers, which should be achievable in the time frame of this project.
  3. The A-Wing fighter is another ship that appears in the battle of Endor, in episode VI. This ship has a very retro design, quite blocky, but still very visually appealing. I wanted a ship that would be used in squadrons (in order to bulk out the ships in my animation) while still looking interesting, this ship ticked all those boxes. The ring around the jet engines at the back of the ship are a particularly interesting design choice that I really like the look of. In a modelling sense, this ship is probably the more difficult out of the 3 to make due to it's curved edges and forked wedge shape, however I don't feel that the model would be too difficult to make in the time frame for this module. Texturing of this model is very similar to the Delta-7, with lots of block white/reds and lots of paneling detail.
I will continue making more mood boards with different ship ideas over the coming weeks after talking to my tutor about the feasibility of these 3 models.
